If I roll the cost of that in I guess my phono cable would be over $100. Mind you, I had to use a speciality soldering station that my brother gave me so that I wouldn't melt the wire coming from the back end of the SME III. However I've had the best results with the Canare Star-Quad. I have in fact paid more than $100 for phono cable and one of my turntables has an Audioquest pair that set me back about $150. I forgot what RCA plugs I used at the other end but recall they were sturdily constructed and cost about $12 the pair. It is flexible and one only needs a single run for this application. Canare Star Quad is intended for balanced use with four internal conductors and a copper wire mesh braided on the outside for shielding. I bypassed the RCA jacks of my SME III arm, soldering the internal wires from the back of the arm to a single run of Canare Star-Quad, about a meter long. There's actual technical info on this link: Note that the ground shield for the Star-Quad is connected to the metal chassis of the turntable but not connected to the phono preamp, that has less noise than the alternative.
